Skeanie Infant Sneakers Review

The feet of little ones are so delicate and cute, as a parent you want to look after your little ones feet.  Experts say that as babies and young children’s feet are soft and pliable which makes them prone to damage being bare footed is best for their little feet.  However being bare footed isn’t always suitable and shoes are needed to protect from the weather or prevent your little one from hurting their feet.  As a parent you want to buy the right shoes to protect those fragile, precious little feet.  Tristan is bare footed a lot of the time but sometimes shoes are necessary and I feel that it is my responsibility to ensure the shoes I put on him aren’t going to damage and restrict his feet.  When I was offered the opportunity to review for Skeanie I was thrilled and excited about the prospect of seeing whether critically acclaimed Skeanie could provide shoes that would be good for my little man’s adorable feet.

Skeanie, an Australian company, was created by Natasha Barber a mum of two after she struggled to find high quality, soft leather shoes for babies and toddlers.  Skeanie Shoes for Kids was launched after 2 years of detailed research and design.  Following the success of the brand in Australia, Skeanie was launched in Europe and now they are “loved by little feet around the World” receiving praise from both parents and experts.  Skeanie is the Preferred Provider of the Australian Podiatry Association (NSW) and Podiatrists and Pediatricians from around the World recommend Skeanie’s soft soled shoes for babies, toddlers and young children.

Research shoes that shoes with too much support and rigid soles hinders the development of the muscles in a little ones feet, ankles and legs; whilst soft soled shoes allows for the natural muscle development by being the next best thing to being bare footed.  With this in mind Skeanie’s shoes have been designed to protect and nurture developing little feet by closely mimicking the ‘bare foot’ and providing protection from the environment.  Leading UK podiatrist and SKEANIE consultant, Tracy Byrne says - “SKEANIE shoes provide all the protection and flexibility needed to ensure good foot development. As well as providing room for natural growth, SKEANIE’s soft soled shoes allow sensory feedback from the ground, which is especially important for little ones learning to walk and getting to know their surroundings. Research shows that young ones who wear flat, soft soled shoes have improved proprioception, balance and foot and ankle strength.”

All of their shoes are hand-crafted using high quality, super soft eco-leather.  They are designed in Australia and are made in fair trade conditions in China.  Skeanie make shoes for babies and children from newborn up to the age of 5; their infant range fits from birth to 18 months and the junior range continues up to 5 years.

Tristan has been crawling for months now, is a pro at cruising furniture and is tentatively taking his first steps so as it is recommended that little ones wear the infant soft sole range until they have been walking independently for a period of time and are ready for the junior range when protection is required for outdoor walking and exploring, we opted for one of their shoes from the infant range.  We were given the choice of which shoe to get from the infant range and it was a very hard choice to make as they have an amazing range of shoes.  I fell in love with the Infant Sporty Sneakers in red and white however these were out of stock so we were sent the navy and white Infant Sporty Sneaker instead.

High quality leather and suede soles
The shoes came in a box which I couldn’t wait to get open to get my hands on them.  I instantly loved the shoes; they are very cute and amazing quality.  Daddy thinks his little lad looks very grown up in his little sneakers and was amazed at the superb quality of the shoes.  The leather is super soft to the touch and the stitching on theses handmade shoes is immaculate and you can instantly tell that these adorable little sneakers are made to a very high standard of excellent quality.  These sneakers are made of high quality genuine leather upper that allows your little one’s feet to breathe and grow naturally, they have elasticated ankles to help keep the shoes in place and the soles are made of suede which provides superior grip for your little one as they are crawling or walking.  I really like the fact that the shoes are padded slightly and curved around the ankle which is more comfortable.

The sneakers fit him really well, they are easy to put on and there is extra wiggle room for his toes so they aren’t restricting his little feet.  There is room for growth without being too big and he will be able to get plenty of use out of them.  On Skeanie’s website there is a shoe size chart that you can print off to help you get the right size for your little one, it was easy to use and using the chart we found Tristan needed a size Large which fits him perfectly.  They are lightweight, do not hinder his movements at all and his little feet can move as naturally as possible, allowing his feet to develop in a healthy way.  When Tristan is walking you can really see how ultra flexible the shoes are and how effective the grip is.  I love that these shoes allow his feet to move naturally whilst he is getting essential grip.

Tristan has been wearing his Skeanie sneakers for a couple of weeks now and I am very impressed, I love these shoes as they provide my little man with comfort and support.  They are a tad expensive but you get what you pay for and in this case you get high quality genuine leather soft baby shoes that allow tiny feet to breathe and grow naturally, being the next best thing to being bare footed which in my opinion is worth the price.  As being barefoot isn’t always practical I love that these shoes keep Tristan’s feet warm, protected and free to move as he masters his first steps in the World.  They look gorgeous on and he has had lots of compliments about his funky new sneakers.  I also love that they are ethically handmade.

These sneakers can be bought on Skeanie’s website for £26.99.  They have a beautiful range of shoes available; their infant range offers soft sole pre-walkers, sporty sneakers, skeanie snugs and infant mary janes.  Their junior collection offers shoes with their innovative flexible rubber sole which are designed for walkers.  Join Skeanie on their facebook page and follow on twitter @SkeanieEurope to keep up-to-date with their fabulously trendy range of shoes for little ones.

* Skeanie kindly gave us these sneakers to review for free, despite this I have written a honest review that contains my own words and opinions and is 100% my own *
